In a crucial development related to the Unnao rape case, Advocate Mehmood Paracha, counsel for the victim, clarified key aspects of the petition filed, emphasizing that it was strictly limited in scope and did not concern the merits of the case itself.
Addressing the media in Delhi, Paracha explained that the petition was primarily filed to seek condonation of delay in submitting the appeal, requesting the court to overlook the delay due to exceptional circumstances. He made it clear that the plea did not aim to revisit or challenge the strength of the case, which he asserted was already firmly established.
“It had nothing to do with the merits of the case,” he stated, underlining that the legal arguments presented were procedural rather than substantive. According to him, the focus was solely on ensuring that the appeal could be heard despite the delay, given the extraordinary nature of the matter.
Paracha further highlighted that the case itself remains strong, with substantial evidence already on record. He pointed out that the arguments presented before the court stressed the exceptional circumstances surrounding the case, which justified the request for condoning the delay.
In a significant remark, the advocate also referred to previous judicial observations concerning the investigation. He stated that there had been findings against the Central Bureau of Investigation, indicating concerns about its conduct during the probe. He alleged that the investigating agency was found to be acting in collusion with the accused, including Kuldeep Singh Sengar and others, raising serious questions about the integrity of the investigation process.
The Unnao case, which has been one of the most high-profile and sensitive cases in recent years, continues to draw attention due to its legal complexities and the serious nature of the allegations. The latest clarification from the victim’s counsel sheds light on the procedural developments currently underway in court.
Paracha’s statement reinforces that the legal battle is now focused on ensuring due process and fairness, rather than re-establishing facts that have already been examined. The case remains under judicial consideration, with further proceedings expected to determine the course ahead.
As developments continue, the focus remains on the legal process and ensuring that justice is delivered in accordance with the law, while maintaining the integrity of the judicial system.
