Date:

India is set to host the 2026 BRICS Labour and Employment Ministers’ Meeting (LEMM) in Hyderabad on July 15–16. labour ministers and senior officials from BRICS member states gathering for a major ministerial dialogue under India’s presidency of the grouping.

This meeting, chaired by Union Minister for Labour and Employment Mansukh Mandaviya, will focus on four key priorities: expanding social security and formalizing the labor market; strengthening employability through skill development and mapping; increasing women’s participation in the workforce; and promoting the use of digital technology for all workers, including those in the gig and platform economy.

This ministerial dialogue follows the third BRICS Employment Working Group meeting held in Hyderabad on July 13–14. Participating nations exchanged policy experiences and drafted a declaration, which the ministers will consider for adoption.

Held under India’s presidency with the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability (BRICS),” this meeting aims to strengthen cooperation on labor and employment policies while addressing emerging challenges in the changing world of work. It is expected that these discussions will yield practical policy solutions to enhance worker welfare, strengthen social security, and prepare the workforce in BRICS nations for future economic and technological transformations.
