New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh flagged off a 13-day ‘Shaurya Vijay Yatra’ on Tuesday, starting from the National War Memorial in New Delhi and heading to the Kargil War Memorial in Dras, Ladakh. This journey is part of the nationwide celebrations for Kargil Vijay Diwas 2026.

A total of 28 riders, including serving and retired Army personnel and their family members, are participating in this motorcycle expedition. The journey will cover a distance of approximately 1,900 kilometers, traversing challenging Himalayan routes. Its objective is to pay tribute to the soldiers who displayed extraordinary courage and made the ultimate sacrifice during the 1999 Kargil War. The theme of the expedition is ‘One Ride, One Nation, One Salute’.

Addressing the flag-off ceremony, Rajnath Singh paid tribute to the Indian soldiers who achieved victory in ‘Operation Vijay’ and described their courage, discipline, and patriotism as an inspiration for future generations. He recalled how the soldiers fought under extremely difficult conditions such as high-altitude battlefields and freezing cold to recapture strategic positions from the enemy forces.

The Defence Minister paid tribute to Param Vir Chakra awardees of the Kargil War for their bravery. During the yatra, riders will visit key war memorials, meet Veer Naris, and carry sacred soil from the National War Memorial to Kargil in honour of fallen soldiers.

This campaign will conclude at the Kargil War Memorial on July 26, on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas. Chief of Defence Staff General NS Raja Subramani, Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth, and other senior officers participated in this event.
