NCR Gets Respite from Heat as Heavy Rain Continues; Waterlogging and Traffic Jams Cause Trouble

Date:

In a major relief to the people of Delhi-NCR, the weather has changed due to the continuous rainfall over the last two days. Rain brought the temperature down and also made the Air Quality Index below 50. While the residents are enjoying the weather, at the same time, traffic jams and waterlogging have made their lives hard. All over Delhi-NCR, waterlogging and traffic jams have made it hard for people to reach office on time.

Key Highlights:

– Weather Department Alert: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ for Friday, July 10. Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is expected from morning through afternoon.
– Temperature: Forecasted maximum of 33°C and minimum of 23°C.
– School Closures: As a safety precaution, all schools—from nursery to Class 12—have been closed in seven districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Ghaziabad.
– Positive Impact: Persistent rain has cleared the air in the NCR; the Air Quality Index (AQI) across the region has reached the ‘Green Zone’.

Key AQI Figures:
– Delhi: Alipur (29), Aya Nagar (35), Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range (25)
– Noida: Sector-62 (32), Sector-116 (48)
– Ghaziabad: Govindpuram (30), Sanjay Nagar (30)

Disruptions Caused by Rain:
– Waterlogging on roads in several areas of Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad.
– Heavy morning traffic jams; vehicle movement hampered by water accumulation in underpasses and low-lying areas.
– Authorities are deploying pumping systems to drain the water.

Forecast (IMD):

– July 11: 36/25°C, rain with thunderstorms
– July 12: 37/26°C, generally cloudy
– July 13-14: Around 37°C, partly cloudy
– July 15: 35/26°C, likely to remain cloudy
