The Delhi government is set to take significant measures regarding the safety arrangements of coaching institutes in the national capital. Delhi government minister Ashish Sood stated that approximately 923 to 924 coaching centers are operating in the city, and all of them will undergo fire audits and safety inspections within the next month.
Ashish Sood informed the media that a meeting has been convened for the committee constituted to formulate rules and regulations for coaching centers. This committee was formed based on the recommendations of the Gauba Committee. He stated that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has been appointed as the nodal agency for this entire process.
The Delhi government minister said that instructions have been issued to all relevant agencies, in coordination with the municipal corporation, to inspect all 923–924 coaching centers within a month. During this process, fire safety measures, safety standards, and other essential documents will be examined. He clarified that strict action would be taken against coaching institutes that lack complete documentation or fail to meet the standards set during the safety audit; they could even be sealed if necessary.
Ashish Sood also mentioned that a new law would soon be introduced based on the recommendations of the committee formed under the Higher Education Department. This legislation will cover various crucial aspects, ranging from the fees charged by coaching institutes to their operational procedures.
Meanwhile, the Delhi government minister also responded to questions regarding the inclusion of a new chapter on the ‘Emergency’ in the Class 9 NCERT textbook. He remarked that the new generation ought to understand the meaning of freedom of expression and the distinction between declared and undeclared emergencies.
Minister Ashish Sood stated that the country’s youth should also be aware of the incidents and atrocities that occurred during the Emergency. It is vital for the new generation to be informed about such topics concerning democracy and the freedom of expression.
