NEW DELHI — Communist Party of India (CPI) General Secretary D Raja on Friday refrained from commenting on a controversial statement made by Maharashtra Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar, while strongly urging voters in West Bengal to oppose the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the ongoing Assembly elections.
Speaking to the media in Delhi, Raja said he would not respond to the specific remark attributed to Wadettiwar, noting that it would be more appropriate for senior leadership within the Congress party to address the issue. “I have no comment on this particular statement by some Maharashtra leader. If the Indian National Congress President, Mallikarjun Kharge, or the Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Rahul Gandhi, says something, then I can comment. Let the Congress party react,” he stated.
Raja’s response indicates a cautious approach, avoiding direct involvement in internal or inter-party controversies while maintaining focus on broader political priorities. His remarks suggest that he considers the issue to be an internal matter for the Indian National Congress to address.
Shifting his focus to the electoral landscape, Raja highlighted that the final day of campaigning in West Bengal marks a crucial moment in the democratic process. He called upon voters in the state to make what he described as a decisive choice in the interest of both the state and the country.
