Aadhaar Users Can Now Update Email Address for Free Using Aadhaar App

Date:

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has now enabled people to add or update their email IDs directly in their Aadhaar via the Aadhaar app, eliminating the need to visit an Aadhaar center.

This facility will be available free of charge exclusively through the Aadhaar app and will remain in effect for six months starting July 1, 2026. It will make keeping Aadhaar information up-to-date easier than ever for the public. By eliminating the need for physical visits, this initiative reflects the UIDAI’s commitment to providing citizen-friendly digital services under the ‘Digital India’ campaign, moving towards a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India).

More than 250,000 people have updated their email addresses within two days. Linking an email address with Aadhaar enables the receipt of real-time email notifications upon the completion of Aadhaar authentication requests.

This enhances transparency and provides an additional layer of security, as it allows Aadhaar holders to keep track of how their Aadhaar number is being used for various purposes. So far, more than 4 million people have updated their mobile numbers using the new Aadhaar app. Additionally, approximately 1 million people have used the app to update their addresses.

UIDAI encourages people to avail themselves of the facility to add or update their email ID in their Aadhaar. Residents can use this feature by downloading or updating the Aadhaar app. The new Aadhaar app is available on both Android and Apple iOS platforms. (PIB)
