Vijender Gupta Condemns Opposition Reaction, Says Women’s Rights Should Not Be Politicised…

Date:

NEW DELHI — Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta has strongly criticised opposition leaders over their reaction to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent address to the nation, particularly on the issue of women’s rights.

Speaking in Delhi, Gupta said that attempts to “snatch away women’s rights” and deny them their due are deeply concerning, adding that such actions reflect a negative approach toward half of the country’s population. He подчеркнул that targeting or criticising those who advocate for women’s empowerment is unacceptable and should be condemned.

Gupta stated that the country had been progressing with a clear vision of equality and rights, with efforts being made to ensure greater participation of women in democratic and governance processes. According to him, initiatives aimed at empowering women are part of a broader national agenda to promote inclusive growth.

He alleged that obstructing these efforts and derailing progress undermines the goal of ensuring equal opportunities for women. Gupta further said that preventing the implementation of measures that support women’s participation in governance is not in the interest of the nation.

The Delhi Assembly Speaker also criticised what he described as “conspiratorial politics”, suggesting that certain actions taken after halting such initiatives raise questions about intent. He argued that political disagreements should not come at the cost of important social reforms.

His remarks come amid ongoing political tensions following debates over women’s reservation and related legislative developments. The issue has seen strong reactions from both the ruling alliance and opposition, with each side accusing the other of obstructing progress.

Gupta emphasised that women’s empowerment should remain above political divisions, and called for a more constructive approach to policymaking. He said that ensuring women’s participation in governance is essential for strengthening democracy and achieving balanced development.

Observers note that the debate over women’s rights and representation continues to be a major political issue, with leaders across parties using the platform to articulate their positions.

Vijender Gupta’s statement highlights the sharp political divide over women’s empowerment policies, while reiterating the need to prioritise equality and inclusive participation in the country’s democratic framework.
