PM Modi Targets DMK and Allies with ‘Son-in-Law’ Remark at Coimbatore Rally

Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched a sharp political attack on the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and its allies during a rally in Coimbatore, using a pointed remark to criticise their leadership.

Addressing the gathering, PM Modi said that both the DMK in Tamil Nadu and its allies at the national level share a common issue, referring to what he described as the role of “sons-in-law” in their political setups.

He remarked that “DMK and their allies in Delhi have one thing in common… in both, the sons-in-law have done wonders,” suggesting alleged misuse of influence and power.

The Prime Minister further added that the people of India and Tamil Nadu are increasingly dissatisfied, stating that the public is “fed up” with such political dynamics.

He claimed that while the country is frustrated with one such figure at the national level, Tamil Nadu is similarly dissatisfied with another at the state level.

The comments come amid an intense election campaign in Tamil Nadu, where the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance is attempting to expand its presence against the DMK, which has traditionally held strong political ground in the state.

PM Modi’s remarks are part of a broader strategy by the BJP to target opposition parties on issues related to governance, corruption, and leadership credibility. Such statements are often used to draw contrasts between the ruling party at the Centre and regional parties in states.

The rally in Coimbatore witnessed strong political messaging, with the Prime Minister aiming to mobilize support and highlight alleged shortcomings of the DMK government.

The DMK has not issued an immediate response to these specific remarks. However, political exchanges between the BJP and DMK have been intensifying as elections approach, with both sides engaging in strong rhetoric.

It is important to note that these comments are part of political campaigning and reflect the views and allegations made by the speaker.

With election activity gaining momentum, such sharp statements underscore the heated nature of the campaign, as parties seek to influence public opinion and consolidate voter support.
