Prime Minister Lauds Commonwealth Games Medalists For Inspiring The Nation

Date:

On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with India’s medal winners from the 2026 Commonwealth Games—held in Glasgow—at his official residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, in New Delhi.

Sharing photos of the meeting on the social media platform ‘X’, PM Modi wrote, “Delighted to host our stellar Commonwealth Games 2026 medal winners at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg. Heard about their experiences during the Games. They have all brought glory to the nation with their outstanding performances. Their success will inspire many youngsters.”

Prime Minister Modi also shared a video of the meeting on his ‘X’ account, which began with boxer Sakshi Chaudhary—gold medalist in the women’s 51kg category—speaking. In the video, Sakshi said, “Hello friends, I am Sakshi Chaudhary… Today, the honourable Prime Minister has invited all of us Commonwealth Games medalists. We feel very proud about this. We were delighted to meet the Prime Minister; he is very humble.”

Following this, PM Modi remarked, “Those who play, will shine; always cheer for India.” Concluding his address, PM Modi joined the athletes in chanting “Bharat Mata Ki Jai.”

India secured the fourth spot on the medal tally with 39 medals (13 gold, 17 silver, and 9 bronze), even though the competition schedule had been significantly curtailed and excluded high-medal-yield sports such as wrestling, badminton, table tennis, hockey, and shooting.

The Indian boxing team returned from Glasgow with seven gold and three silver medals. Meanwhile, the judo team delivered its best-ever performance at the Commonwealth Games, winning four medals—comprising two gold, one silver, and one bronze. In athletics, India won 10 medals, including five silver and five bronze. Gulveer Singh became the first Indian track-and-field athlete to win two individual medals at a single Commonwealth Games. He won the silver medal in the men’s 10,000m race and the bronze medal in the 5,000m race.
