Manohar Lal Reviews Bhalswa Dumpsite Cleanup; 99.07 Lakh MT Legacy Waste Removed, Full Clearance Targeted by October 2026

New Delhi: Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Shri Manohar Lal inspected the Bhalswa dumpsite today. During the visit, he reviewed the work being undertaken by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for the removal and proper disposal of legacy waste.

This visit reflects the government’s commitment to accelerating the process of legacy waste disposal and placing special emphasis on regularly monitoring its progress. The Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and senior officials from the Urban Development Division of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) were also present during the inspection.

During the inspection, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) informed the Hon’ble Minister that 99.07 lakh metric tonnes of legacy waste had been disposed of from the Bhalswa dumpsite by July 31, 2026. The MCD stated that there is a plan to completely remove the remaining legacy waste heaps by October 15, 2026. Additionally, a target has been set to clear the accumulated waste by December 31, 2026.

The Hon’ble Minister directed the MCD to expedite the recently awarded work for processing fresh waste at the landfill site, so that the remediation process can be accelerated and timely scientific waste management ensured.

This inspection highlights the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs’ sustained commitment to the timely removal of legacy waste and the complete remediation of the Bhalswa dumpsite.
