Defence Ministry Signs ₹425 Crore Deal to Supply Marine Gas Turbine Generators to Indian Navy

Date:

The Ministry of Defence has signed a contract with Pune-based Bharat Forge Limited to procure 12 Marine Gas Turbine Generator sets (1.25 MW capacity) for the Indian Navy at a total cost of approximately ₹425 crore. These generators will feature at least 60% indigenous content. The contract was signed under the ‘Buy (Indian)’ category in New Delhi on June 19, 2026, in the presence of Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh.

This project reinforces the government’s commitment to ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Make-in-India’ by establishing a robust domestic manufacturing ecosystem. It will enhance maritime self-reliance in critical strategic technologies and strengthen the Indian Navy’s operational readiness through indigenous production and end-to-end life-cycle support.

This contract marks a significant step towards developing indigenous capability for manufacturing marine gas turbine generators. These generators serve as the backbone for power generation in modern naval warships, powering essential combat systems as well as advanced weapons and sensors. (PIB)
